Johannesburg - Global cellular operator Vodafone announced Tuesday that it had signed a deal with Apple to bring the iPhone to ten countries including SA.
The multinational network operator says the countries that will be covered by the deal are SA, Australia, the Czech Republic, Egypt, Greece, Italy, India, Portugal, New Zealand and Turkey.
This would mark the first deal to bring the iPhone to countries in which Apple does not operate its iTunes store. The phone has been sold unofficially in numerous countries around the globe with the software being modified to bypass systems put in place to lock it to specific partner networks.
Apple released the iPhone in the USA in June last year and has since then launched in Germany, France and the UK.
Vodacom declined to elaborate on the exact details of the deal.
