The Fruitless Flesh

Introspectively, I am continuously awed whenever I consider the qualities God has ordained upon mankind; the grandeur thereof is absolutely mind numbing - absolutely awesomeness. There is truly no denying that human beings are wonderfully and fearfully made, and are something to marvel at and admire.

Because of our senses, thought processes and many other things; human beings are irrefutably the most favored and unique of all of God’s creations. But it is with great distress that today I acknowledge the contrast betwixt mankind and God; for God pleasures in righteousness, but mankind seldom finds pleasure in the same – which belongs to God.

While acknowledging that God is a spiritual entity; it is with the same logic that we should also acknowledge that, no matter how hard we attempt, we cannot connect with God in the same manner as we connect with other human beings. Being a human being; it becomes very easy to connect with other human beings simply because our social needs are closely knit in similarity, regardless of our social background and ethnicity. Human beings don’t only relate with each and one with ease but they can also influence each and one with the same simplicity. One has to be extremely asserted within them - and of an inviolable will to be able to resist and deter from the influence caused by the social inclinations of other human beings. While living amongst mankind and witnessing the lifestyles perpetuated; it therefore becomes an arduous task for any human being to maintain righteousness and not be defiled by the immorality of this world. But nothing is impossible if it is conceivable.
As human beings, we pass through many conditioning stages through our lifetime; the first being the conditioning a mother imposes on a child. In normal and preferable circumstances, a newborn babe spends the bulk of its infancy in the nurturing hands of the mother. Without any knowledge or permission of the child; the mother instinctively conditions the child to uphold all of the mother’s values and beliefs. But the most trying times for the child is when the child becomes exposed to other forms of conditioning found in socialising, fashion, the media, learning institutions, and religious institutions. Acknowledging that God is not impressed with any of the aforementioned institutions; it is therefore of paramount importance that we align ourselves with the will of God by upholding righteousness, and that can only be achieved by fearing the Lord. “Treasures of wickedness profit nothing: but righteousness delivereth from death.”

It is advantageous for us to always keep in mind that we are fleshly beings, and that we can be enticed by the world to commit wickedness through the lusting of the flesh. Furthermore, we must also keep in mind that God chose not to have dominion over our will; every human being has the freewill to do as pleasing to them. As for me; I am redeemed by the blood of Jesus Christ from sin, and although God wants me to remain in his perfect will and present myself blameless towards Him, He still allows me to have dominion over my will. The onus falls on me to align myself with righteousness whilst living in the flesh, which is - I must confess, a very difficult affair. But I am comforted by the fact that “I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me”. Many people believe that our greatest enemy is the devil, which is not. In fact, our greatest enemy is our flesh by the cause of our lust, the devil utilises those things which we lust after to have dominion over us. In truth, the devil was defeated by Christ on Calvary; he is powerless unless you give him power through the weakness of the flesh. ‘The devil is as a roaring lion, walking about, seeking whom he may devour”. Our true hindrance, the true enemy of God is the flesh and the wicked desires thereof. And if any man continue to lust after the things of flesh and not after the things of the spirit; God will allow lust to have dominion over you. “So I gave them up to their own hearts’ lusts: and they walked after their own counsels”

Being cognizant of the fact that I’m going to die someday, that this fleshly body will one day come to naught; what shall I then profit if I live to please this decaying and mortal flesh? Sure there is much pleasure in the things of the flesh, but like the generations of man, all the pleasures of the flesh shall end – and be gone forever. But I have hope of eternal joy and peace through my Lord Christ Jesus, but I first need to overcome the flesh which is a hindrance and the oppressor of the spirit – fruitless in every manner concerning the spirit. I therefore, for the sake of my spirit, will crucify the flesh daily to be edified in the spirit. “For me to live is Christ and to die is gain.”

May G do Christ Jesus keep you and bless you.
