So, if you have a Blackberry like me you were more than likely extremely frustrated about the service outage that was happening over the passed three days. No emails, No internet and No BBM. You would also be very happy about the fact that it seems to be up and running again. To be honest, my Blackberry is not my life - I use it to receive personal emails and chat with a few friends on BBM. I don't run a business from it or have 100 contacts I have to keep in touch with. I sit in front of a computer all day so if need be I could switch between my email accounts to check mail and call or sms whoever I need to.
Still, It was crazy that millions of people were effected by it and are now apparently not only claiming back refunds but I'm sure are considering switching over to an iPhone or Android. I like my Blackberry and so assuming this doesn't happen again I'm sticking with it. Plus, I'm locked into my contract for another 8 months anyway before I can get an upgrade and I can only imagine what changing it now would do to me - my sanity is far more important to me at this point.
Another major issue that came up with Blackberry/RIM was their lack of communication on social media - While Twitter was buzzing with questions and complaints from customers and answers only coming from some service providers (Vodacom) RIM remained pretty silent. Had RIM given an update every once in a while to keep people informed, customers may have felt like they were being noticed. With social media today, there is no excuse for people to be in the dark especially when it comes to customer service.
In my opinion, and I'm sure others would agree with me, RIM needs to sort out their PR machine. Cause uninformed customers are angry ones!
Anyway - Happy days! I was woken up this morning by emails and the buzzing of my BBM.
